the Process
Each sculpture uniquely displays bent wood slats delicately braided on a steel rod, atop a complimentary wood base. A clear finish exhibits the natural beauty and age of varied reclaimed and locally sourced species of wood. Of the exhibited, a selection represents the ‘blue’ series, which showcases various tones of blue epoxy filling the natural imperfections of the wood. Black walnut, white walnut, yellow pine, old-growth pine, cedar, Kentucky coffee, cherry, Purple Heart, maple, and hickory have all been showcased in this sculpture series.
Work labeled “OTR” displays 200+ year old pine, salvaged from a historic building near Findlay Market in Over The Rhine, Cincinnati, Ohio. OTR is renowned for being one of the largest areas in the country containing buildings of historical significance.
the Artist
Jeff Linenkugel was born and raised in Toledo Ohio and moved to Columbus to attend the The Ohio State University, School of Architecture. The years spent there provided him with the opportunity to study in various regions of Italy and Spain. These trips exposed and expanded what already was a great fondness of art and architecture but experiencing the historic intertwining of art, sculpture and architecture, established a keen interest in bringing life to 3D concepts, whether it is a building environment or a wood sculpture.
Though, the concept of the wood sculpture was explored thoroughly in model form in 1996, the true birth was 2011, in a home studio where he currently resides with his wife and 2 children. The family provides endless support and continuous inspiration. This inspiration, in concert with a passion for nature and it’s resources, continue to be the drive for his sculptural work.
His works include, but are not limited to: artwork - both sculptures and wall art, charcuterie boards, furniture, games, storage units, and toy chests.
